Dust and dirt is insurmountable where we live. The environment can be as inhospitable and monotone as Mars; it’s like living on Dune . Yet imported trees, shrubs, and flowers, combined with car exhaust and other pollution, create havoc for asthmatics. One of the only implements that helps clear the air so that chronic asthma is relieved are these excellent filters. We’ve used the higher particulate microfilters too, but unfortunately, they strain the pump on our weak cooler. The air is so filthy that I sometimes have to replace the filter monthly. If your dust causes coughing, I also highly recommend the soothing, sugar-free Ricola Menthol Cough Suppressant Throat Drops , and Mucinex Extended-Release Bi-Layer 600 mg Tablets . Good luck!

By reading the feedback on Amazon, I discovered that it is important to consider the MPR rating of the various filters. The filters that cost the most, filter out the most particles, but force your A/C to work harder. So I chose this with an MPR of 600 as a compromise: filters a lot, but doesn’t overtax the A/C.

I usually like anything that has 3M name on it, and this is no exception. I was using 1500 MPR for returns on my electric furnace, and they were making the unit work more and increased my electric bill. A quick search led me to use 600 MPR, as this seems to solve that issue with electric heat pump. It does a decent job, and I since it is cheap, I changed them every two months. The price is the best I have seen.

These filters showed up packed in 6 units with a thin plastic wrap. In a huge box about 1.5 times the size of the filters themselves. The filters are warped and somewhat smashed. Due to the packaging of this product I recommend you look elsewhere for these. I am certain that the Filtrete MPR600 filters themselves are excellent and work well per 3M specifications. However, again, due to the poor packaging I do not recommend these to some users. After all these filters are not exactly a cheap product – they can improve the packaging. In addition, once you remove the 6 filters from the plastic wrap you will need to find a clean place to store these – preferably in a card board box that will fit multiple filters to keep them straight and clean. I live in a hot climate and need to stock up on quite a few of these, but would rather use something else due to the packaging. If it matters to you, the filters themselves are NOT individually wrapped.

Good product at a good price. I’ve been going through 2-3 filters per year in the Northeast. I agree with other posters that you do not want too fine of a filter because it will clog to easily. I find that this filter size is a good compromise between filter size and airflow.

Our local stores don’t always offer the higher filtration performance of these Filtretes, but make sure your furnace/AC can handle the added resistance. Some older models simply can’t handle the finer filtration and will begin acting as if clogged. At any rate, the dust settling on our horizontal surfaces definitely subsided thus our overall indoor health…js

Excellent filters…long lasting…

Filters are generic and so fine. Six filters were all taped together in the box which took several minutes to pull apart which was quite inconvenient
